A Night on the Town with Friends While recently dining with friends from the design community, in an intimate restaurant on the east side, Grimaldi was asked what he thought of a popular home show since he was producing his own television series. He replied: “I have yet to see a room I really liked on that particular show, or appeared finished. The host never seems grounded or involved with the project and the questions she asks the participants, I’m sorry to admit, constantly annoy me. One of their “stars” did a tiny vestibule in one of my Manhattan show houses years ago. He must be taking “hate pills” because he refuses to ever do what the homeowner requests. I would suggest that someone tells him the shows name isn’t “Breaking the Rules Between a Designer and Client” or “I Only Do What I Want”. A member of the table quickly added, “If they are so great at doing “spaces,” why aren’t they out there working on fabulous commercial and residential projects like the rest of us here tonight instead of digging through the trash for unsafe pieces of furniture.” Another designer abruptly responded, “It is obvious to me they prefer sitting in the hot sun, under a canvas awning, with sawdust flying in every direction, looking exhausted from what heaven only knows, since everyone else seems to be doing the work, then we witness them proudly painting worn out lamp shades the worst color green God ever created as if a fresh coat of paint can solve all design problems …is this for real?” Grimaldi jumped in, “We had better stop this right now…I’m in enough trouble with the competition…I suggest that you hold on for dear life ladies and gentlemen, you haven’t seen anything yet…”The Room of Choice”, and its reality awaits you.” The entire restaurant, whom were obviously listening, toasted and applauded this distinguished table of friends who were enjoying a night on the town.
